ITanks mate. My brain felt like with this one xD
Maybe we're heading down the same road: I've uninstalled a bunch of skinning stuff on my xp, installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a separate partition & will solely concentrate on skinning Ubuntu in the future...
As I'm still a n00b in this field, I have a few questions...
1. What do you mean by "choose global menu"?
2. I read somewhere that when installing a new GTK theme, one should install it "system-wide" i.e. put the theme files in /usr/themes (or something like that) in stead of locally (i.e. /<username>/.theme/)... Do you per chance have any advice on this?
After doing the Mac thing on XP for a lesser eternity, I felt that I had reached the point where I could offer up assistance to others every now & then @ dA and Aqua-Soft - now it feels as if I've joined the n00b ranks again - which in a way feels quite nice...

I have not actually given up on xp and vista hehe. It's just that Ubuntu is now my default OS so I have to do something about the GUI... and also skinning iis my way of immersing/familiarizing myself with the OS. GUI still not as smooth I think (or no modder has yet fully realized or maximized the potential of the program'
regarding your questions:
i Global menu - similar to objectbar or mac finder [link]
2 I don't know about that. Probably to minimize problems/glitches with the themes For me it is safer (i dont't yet know enough to mess with my system). Also easier editing- no user restrictions etc etc
Its just the default wall of warthog. Just played around with the colors...

THAT is the challenge and thrill actually. It so much easier to just create another theme, since you don't have to bother with image sizings, gradients and whatnot...
Thanks mate. Still a long way to go, as i often hit a wall with Ubuntu skinning. Either I don't know enough about the system, or I just stumble upon some of the system's limitations (more probably the former).
Just holler if you encounter glitches. maybe you can also improve the skin by looking for solutions as well....
